Safar: (n) سفر ; travel

The Safar Series is a versatile modular day bed designed by Katrin Greiling. Consisting of a simple stack of colourful mattresses, the award-winning design combines comfort and functionality with a joyful contemporary aesthetic.

During her travels as a photographer in the Middle East, Katrin was inspired by the furniture and way of life of the nomadic Bedouin tribes she observed – in particular by the seating and beds that could be carried, by camel, from camp to camp. Informed by her background and education in furniture design in Sweden, the Safar Series was born: a day bed that – simply by pulling the stacked mattresses apart – quickly transforms into a guest bed for one or two people.

Symbolising a cultural bridge between Middle East and European furniture tradition, Safar is largely handmade in Sweden, from its high quality wooden frame to the upholstery, which uses a combination of Kvadrat fabrics. The top two mattresses are tied using a colourful cord, and can be flipped for a fresh look and colourway.
